Yearbook Poll

Posted on in Uncategorized

one of the fun aspects of working on a project that consisted of 36 brand-new songs, is deciding which songs i want to play on tour! as each of the 12 “yearbook” EPs were released, i was so blessed and privileged to hear feedback from many of you, telling me which songs you enjoyed most each month! having immediate feedback like that during the project was amazing! usually, when i’ve made records in past, there is no outside feedback until the record is entirely completed and released. with “yearbook” it was incredibly fun and inspiring to hear feedback every 3 songs! it made the entire project feel alive in a way. i truly enjoyed that and felt a constant course of energy from it.

so now, as i prepare for a bit of touring this year (and out of sheer curiosity i suppose) i’d LOVE to hear what “yearbook” songs are your favorite! so i created the poll below. if you don’t mind, vote for your favorite songs! hooray for community!

Watermark is one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. I had the privilege of making the soundtrack for my sister's wedding. All the songs, save but one, was a Sleeping at Last song. Everytime I hear any of the songs from the wedding I get teared up. They were perfection. Thank you for making such seriously gorgeous music.

I voted. Although I was really tempted just to vote for all of them… seriously it was a fantastic project as a whole.

I love all the Yearbook songs but I think for the tour you should do a mix of slow and more upbeat songs. Also, come to Pennsylvania! :)

P.S. Megan, I agree! Watermark is probably my favorite of all the Yearbook songs. Makes me cry (almost) every time.

Just too many great songs to choose from. Still hope & pray that one day your tour will include Australia xx

Aw, why no love for "No Argument?" I loved that song. The lyrics mean a lot to me in that song, but I think it means something to me that you didn't intend for it to mean. I have one question about the lyrics: Is the "rare bird" in No Argument a reference to the "rare bird of grace" in Chandeliers?

I like this poll because it made me go back and relisten to a bunch of the songs. Next to Me is one of the most perfect love songs ever. It's still on my "currents obsessions" playlist and has been since February of 2010. :) And Emphasis surprises me every time I listen with how much I love it.

I'm going to have to listen to the whole year again. :)

Shocked at the low percentage of Watermark. Being able to see that live is on my bucket list.

Snow truly is the perfect song. Beautiful, wistful yet hopeful. Thank you.

My wife and I have waited 6 years to be able to start our family. After several years of trying on our own and then failed (and expensive) infertility treatments, we started an adoption process. The process was longwinded and trying in its own way, but we were buoyed by our "january-white" hope. Yet your song "Watermark" brought me more comfort than almost anything else. It became the signature tune of whatever future son or daughter I knew was floating out in the universe. Then, in early August, my wife and I found out–to our utter surprise–that we were pregnant! I like to think that this song helped our baby find his or her way to us. Baby's due April 7!

For me the best songs are Emphasis and Snow. Lyrically and musically they are absolutely incredible, I would say Snow is probably one of my favorite christmas songs now after discovering your music this winter (thanks to Spotify!). I loved all the music so much I bought the physical collection of the Yearbook EPs and downloaded Storyboards. Ryan, you truly write some incredible and breath-taking music that have actually brought a lot of hope to me in some recent months and struggles I've been facing in my life spiritually. Thank you!!

P.S: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come to Cincinnati, OH or Covington, KY or Columbus, OH or some place close to it if you tour!!!

I had never heard of Sleeping At Last until " The Twighlight Saga" I absolutely fell IN LOVE with them & had to buy the Yearbook Album. It IS my FAVORITE album on my play list. I can't listen to it enough. Every single track is amazing… Absolutely Beautiful !!!

  • Jonathan

I tried not to vote for all of them, just my absolute favorites! I love all of these songs so much, but I would have to say that "Noble Aim" is especially awesome! Thank you for all of this wonderful, meaningful, beautiful music!

  • Devin

My favorite tracks in the album at hourglass, silhouettes, watermark, and dear true love. Silhouettes is truly heartbreaking. You manage to tell a story of resentment and pain of a child wo feels abused by their parents, only to conclude it with this realization that the child is loved. Such a simple, but relatable story.

Page 28 is my absolute favorite! I was shocked at how much I related to it, really. "My resolution was designed for stronger hands." I LOVE IT!
