i’ve been blabbing about it for months now, so it’s no secret that i’m pretty obsessed with the iphone/ipad app “SoundPrism Pro” by audanika. it’s been a tool that i’ve been using nonstop around here, during the creation of “yearbook.” i’ve used it for everything from writing full out songs with it (“hourglass,” “pacific blues,” among others!) to using it as a production tool throughout the project (most songs in the last few EPs, in fact!)
not too long ago, the “SoundPrism” app evolved into the “Pro” version, which added the MIDI factor to this already beautiful instrument. so rather than being limited to the built-in sounds that SoundPrism came with, you could now use it to control ANY sound you have in your MIDI instrumental libraries (gforce m-tron pro, kontakt, etc) – which is pretty mind blowing…
and shortly after that “pro” version released, they released a free update that incorporates accelerometer support… which MEANS that every tilt and turn you make on your iphone/ipad, you can control parameter in your instrument… attack, delays parameters, reverbs, release… ANYTHING .. it’s pretty amazing and honestly i’ve never played or really seen an instrument like it.
here’s a little video that my pup, “wilco” and i put together yesterday to show off some of how i’ve been using it lately… and to show you the basics of what it’s capable of:
seriously if you’re a musician of any sort, you should already have this… but if not, here’s a link.
AND if you’re on the fence, at least download the free version, which gives you a good taste of what the instrument feels like to play. get it free here.
anyway, can’t say enough good things about this app and about the folks behind it… having had the privilege of being in touch with it’s creators recently, i can tell you that there’s some pretty remarkable features yet to be released as well. it’s inspired stuff. and unbelievably inspiring to use.
